What stories lie beneath the places we know?
Somewhere in Time is a VR experience concept that reveals the hidden history and possible futures of real-world locations. Through immersive world-building and historical reconstruction, audiences are transported across centuries from a single location.
As a proof of concept, we produced a cinematic trailer alongside a prototype VR scene and pitch deck focused on Stockholm. The journey moves from Viking life and the sinking of the Vasa to imagined futures yet to come.
The framework is designed to bring the story of any place in the world to life.
Behind the Scenes
Making the VR Test Scene and Trailer
AI Reference & Mood | Concept Art
The world begins with sketching and AI-assisted concept development, generating early visual directions for environments, atmospheres, and historical interpretations.
Locations | Digital Matte Painting
To ground the experience in physical reality, key environments are built as high-fidelity panoramic matte paintings based on real-world locations. We use a combination of real-world photography and our AI-generated reference images. Manual control is essential to ensure spatial accuracy and visual coherence.
Each location is constructed in 360° to support immersive VR viewing and to maintain consistent lighting logic across time periods. 360° panoramas are also the most efficient way to train the Generative AI location models which we will use to create the to trailer.
This process enables controlled iteration of environments while preserving the relationship between real geography and speculative transformation.

Characters & Props
Character and props are then generated from multiple angles and used to build custom trained Gen AI character models.

Directing the Film
Our initial storyboard is used as a guide to direct the film through a bespoke generative pipeline that allows precise iteration of composition, camera language, and scene continuity.
Multiple variations are produced for each sequence, simulating a traditional filmmaking process of shooting and selecting takes. Final scenes are assembled through editing and VFX refinement to ensure narrative clarity and visual consistency across the timeline shifts.
